QLD Government Rates subsidy

Eligible pensioners can receive a subsidy of 20 per cent (up to a maximum amount of $200 each year) of the gross rates and charges levied by your local council.

In addition to the state subsidy, a local council may also offer other remissions on rates and charges. Contact your local council for more information. For Gold Coast residents see below for more information.

Gold Coast Council Rates Remission

Water subsidy

Eligible pensioners can receive a subsidy of up to $120 (maximum) each year off the cost of water access and usage charges for properties in the South East Queensland Water Grid. This discount is available through the rates form above.

Car & Boat Registration Discounts

You may be eligible for a reduction on your vehicle or boat registration fee if you are a Pension Concession Card holder. Savings depend on the size of the vehicle but range from $167 per year for a 4-cylinder car up to $371 per year for 8-cylinder cars.

Electricity and gas rebates

  • the Electricity Rebate—$340.85 per year (GST inclusive)
  • the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate—$74.92 per year (GST inclusive).

QLD Rail Travel

Queensland Resident Pension Card holders are entitled to four (4) Queensland Pension rail entitlements each calendar year.

On presentation of a current Pension Concession Card (PCC), interstate pensioners receive a discount of 25% off the full adult rail fare on Queensland Rail Travel network services.

Discount Medicines

  • up to $6.60 for concession card holders

Once you or your family spend a certain amount on PBS medicine you’ll reach the PBS Safety Net threshold ($316.80 for concession card holders for 2021) at which point PBS medicines are free.

The PBS Safety Net resets 1 January each year.
